usb external HD replace internal HD?
i have this seagate 100gb external hard drive .. it plugs into the PC using a USB 2.0 cable ....... now, i do not want to buy a new hard drive to install inside my pc ... so I'm thinking what if i would install the xp os into my external hard drive .... so instead of buying and installing an IDE or SATA internal hd, I'd rather connect my USB 2.0 external hd to the pc's USB port ... is this possible?
Probably. With an old computer, the BIOS might not support booting from USB devices. But, most recent computers do. I assume everything is working on your computer now. That is, you do not have problems with the operating system, drivers, or other software. If this is the case, you can use disk clone software to copy the current image from your internal hard drive to your external hard drive. You wold want one that can adjust the partition size. Then, you can get into BIOS setup and change the boot sequence so that an external hard drive will be in the boot sequence.
